Lumenis: The power to heal

Lumenis develops innovative technologies that harness the power of energy to revolutionise the way people can look and feel their best.

Lumenis

For decades, Lumenis has been developing and commercialising technology to control the power of light and using it to change the world. Restoring eyesight in an instant, accelerating the healing of broken bones, and reversing the skin’s ageing process, Lumenis achieves unbelievable feats. By combining technology and life science, the company provides tools and training to experts who can make a real difference in people’s lives.

Hundreds of millions of dollars are spent in the medical laser industry and Lumenis is the world’s largest energy-based medical device company. It has a global footprint in three major areas: surgical equipment, aesthetics, and ophthalmology.

Lumenis’ CEO, Tzipi Ozer-Armon, is clear about what she thinks has made it a growing and profitable business.

“I am a great believer in people; I think people make all the difference. This is not only in terms of the individual, but also the collective. I believe that teamwork, a non-political organisation, a good atmosphere, and a place where it’s fun to work is what makes us different from some of the other organisations out there,” she says.

Great people pioneering exceptional medical and aesthetic treatments:

Laser hair removal

Not just for women, laser hair removal is the most popular non-invasive aesthetic treatment and Lumenis’ award-winning LightSheer systems are the industry’s gold standard, providing superior efficacy, safety, comfort and high patient satisfaction.

SLT

Causing gradual loss of vision, open-angle glaucoma affects more than 50 million people worldwide. Sadly, that number is rising. Open-angle glaucoma occurs when the eye’s drainage canals become blocked, increasing inner eye pressure. Lumenis offers ophthalmic laser systems providing ophthalmologists with essential surgical tools to help lower intraocular pressure and control the disease.

Lumenis’ laser energy systems increase drainage of fluid from the eye with Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT). SLT provides the excellent results of Argon Laser Trabeculoplasty (ALT) without the coagulative damage that leads to scarring.

Microsurgery

Recently, Lumenis has been collaborating with leading educational institutes, residents, and fellows, providing training for the Lumenis UltraPulse DUO and AcuPulse DUO surgical technology solutions at the at the annual Combined Otolaryngology Spring Meetings in Chicago. The collaboration was welcomed by surgeons looking to provide better clinical outcomes for patients.

Talking about the UltraPulse DUO’s unique energy delivery capabilities, Paul Castellanos, a medical doctor and Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Alabama said it allows ENT surgeons to operate beyond their line-of-sight.

“With the system’s precision and clear margin visibility, I am better able to treat patients by preserving healthy, delicate tissue and provide patients with a safer and more efficient surgery experience,” he said.

A bright future

As a company, Tzipi believes Lumenis has hit a “magic point” where it has laid the foundations for solid growth and strategy is finally meeting execution. She says this allows her to focus and act confidently in decision-making.

“I’m able to make a decision on what’s important and what’s not important. Having that focus means we can make good and fast decisions,” she says.
