Born from a need for demolition experts in Australia, Liberty Industrial was founded by Clinton Dick just before the GFC struck. Despite the turbulent financial environment, Liberty Industrial weathered the storm to cement itself as a contractor with the expertise and professionalism to complete even the largest and riskiest industrial demolition undertakings.

From consultant to contractor

Initially establishing himself as a demolitions consultant, Clinton was surprised at the urgent need some of Australia’s largest companies had for him to assemble a crew and take on projects from start to finish. He remembers being called out to a BHP site thinking he would offer advice, but it was evident that he was required to get the job done and stayed for 4 weeks to finish it.
“There was a real hole in the market — companies had gone broke and some others had retired — and there was a real gap in the market. There was a need for someone like us to step up and be another major player in that space. Transitioning from consultant to contractor was a relatively easy thing to do because you had really good support from clients that respected what we did. We brought science and innovation and engineering to the industry,” says Clinton.

Industrial mining and power station generation is what we specialise in, but we’re getting more and more opportunities to undertake remediation activities, in ground contamination. We’ve bought a lot of people on board that are experienced in remediation of contaminated land, so we’re expanding into that area. It utilises the same plant equipment, just requires slightly different people with different skillsets, so we’ve brought those people into the business. We’re also transitioning into more commercial demolition work.

Experts offering more than just safe and successful demolitions

Liberty Industrial is one of the only demolition companies in the world that is owned and operated by civil engineers.
Clinton says, “Industrial mining and power station generation is what we specialise in, but we’re getting more and more opportunities to undertake remediation activities, in ground contamination. We’ve bought a lot of people on board that are experienced in remediation of contaminated land, so we’re expanding into that area. It utilises the same plant equipment, just requires slightly different people with different skillsets, so we’ve brought those people into the business. We’re also transitioning into more commercial demolition work.”

Having started out in commercial work, Clinton is excited to see Liberty Industrial expand its operations. “We provide our clients with real expertise; bringing the safety, and the professionalism of the industrial mining arena, we are able to develop that and use it to our advantage in the commercial space. Hopefully we’ll give some commercial clients a taste of the professionalism that’s required on their projects and how we set ourselves apart from our competitors,” he says.

Thinking outside the square

As well as a commitment to safety, excellence, and professionalism, Liberty Industrial draws upon the expertise of the team to distinguish itself as an innovative company. Using state-of-the-art equipment and technology, Liberty Industrial has also developed its own copper cutting saw and copper anode guillotine.

“When people work with us, they know they’re going to work with a solid contractor who appreciates what they bring to the project. They know it’s going to be a successful project because we work with science, engineering, and innovation every day and we want to make processes and activities better,” says Clinton.
