When Richard Brown founded Tefco Trailers in August 1988, he never imagined it would achieve the success it has. From a home base in the small country town of Goulburn, New South Wales, the former truck operator and his wife Sue started repairing trailers out of a little factory near their home. As their operations slowly grew, they hired a handful of staff and began to expand their reach to other parts of the country. Now, nearly three decades later, the business has evolved significantly to become a well-known name in the transport industry.

“I’ve been in the transport sector for a long time now, initially owning a company with trucks and semi tipper trailers, but then the quarry we worked closely with closed on us,” Richard recalls. “So we sold most of the vechicles but kept some of the smashed semi trailers, and I started repairing them for sale.”

Richard and Sue then thought it made sense to open their own small repair business in Goulburn, and a few years into that, they built an aluminium factory to start manufacturing new trailers. Fifteen years later, they bought some property at Murarrie in Queensland and moved their administration area to Brisbane, mainly for lifestyle reasons. Since those early days, the business has steadily grown under the watchful eyes of the pair. “We’ve just completed the construction of another new aluminium factory in Goulburn, and today we employ approximately 100 people,” Richard says.

Tefco Trailers prides itself on providing superior design in the manufacture of trailers, state-of-the-art repair work, and a high-quality and friendly service. The company is innovative and able to adapt swiftly to the ever-changing transport market, consistently exceeding the expectations of its customers. Irrespective of make or model, Tefco Trailers uses genuine manufactured parts for insurance and smash repairs, hydraulic fit-ups, rigid body swaps, and prime mover to rigid truck conversions. With a presence all over the country, Richard says he is incredibly proud of what Tefco Trailers has become, and hopes to see it achieve even more success in future years.
