Few understand the aviation industry better than Jörg Gorkenant. As Head of Design Organisation and COO for 328 Design, an Aerospace Engineering provider with EASA 21J approval for all ATA chapters and the ability to design and certify both large and small aircraft from nose-to-tail, Jörg has more than 20 years’ experience in the aviation and aerospace sector.

Jörg is strongly involved in developing and executing business growth, corporate and project turnarounds, and program and project managing. Getting his start as an engineer focusing on avionics and electrics, he previously worked for Aero Gate, Jet Aviation, Pilatus Aircraft, Fairchild Dornier, and Ruag Aerospace Services. Jörg joined 328 Support Services in 2009 as Head of Design before taking up his current role in 2010.

Over the past few years, Jörg has seen the company grow and change quite dramatically, particularly with the start-up of 328 Design and the creation of the 328 Group which combines 328 Support Services, 328 Design, and JETS. The 328 Group offers excellent turnkey solutions to the aircraft operator market. According to Jörg, this merger has been vital for the group’s success. “As the type design holder of the excellent DO 328 aircraft, which is unfortunately out of production, 328 Support Services was providing premium services by maintaining the fleet globally, manufacturing and delivering spare parts, and providing global support to all the DO 328 operators in the world with technical expertise.

“At the beginning when I arrived, another design organisation was in charge of the certification obligations, and it was stated as a starting point that we wanted to have this competence back in the company structure. I then started to build up this company with the ultimate goal of achieving the authority approval [EASA Part 21J]. We’ve grown to be a very strong and competent team with a wide engineering expertise, which we utilise on all projects under the type design as well as on other aircraft modifications.”
