The giddy thrill of scientific discovery is often tempered by a dose of reality: Will it work? For some scientific disciplines, that very question leaves them wondering for a lifetime; others can get their answers a little quicker.
That’s all thanks to the exhaustive work done by Eurofins Scientific, a global leader in bioanalytical testing. In fields as diverse as food, pharmaceutical, cosmetics, forensics and agroscience, it provides over 200,000 analytical methods of evaluation, from safety and purity to origin and authenticity of biological substances and products. Over 400 million tests are carried out by Eurofins every year in more than 800 laboratories across 50 countries.
The team at Eurofins Central Laboratory is constantly pushing for greater efficiency, streamlined operations, new methods of testing and higher quality results.
Founded in France in 1987, the company quickly grew beyond its home borders as its testing capabilities improved and evolved. Today, the company has a worldwide presence, with one of its largest footprints located in China. Over 2,000 people make up the team at Eurofins China, which has been operating since 2003.
In 2008, Eurofins established its Central Laboratory in Suzhou with the aim of handling the bulk of the company’s testing work, as well as building upon its end-to-end methodology.
A global footprint
Work taken on by Eurofins is split across four wholly-owned laboratories around the world – the United States, the Netherlands, Singapore and China – to eliminate any reliance on multiple vendors.
As a result, its testing capabilities are renowned in the industry and the Central Laboratory, which relocated to Shanghai in 2010 in response to growing demand and stricter regulatory requirements for clinical trials, is at the forefront.
The clinical testing sector is driven by that spark of discovery and a boundless sense of innovation. The team at Eurofins Central Laboratory is constantly pushing for greater efficiency, streamlined operations, new methods of testing and higher-quality results.
This advancement runs in parallel to the worldwide demand for higher-quality food, more sophisticated cosmetics and more effective pharmaceuticals.
Eurofins China has benefited greatly from these twin pillars of organic growth; such is the parent company’s faith in the market that it has begun to grow in other directions (see ‘Assurance comes to China’ below).
High standards
The Chinese lab is also a part of Eurofins’ worldwide commitment to sustainability targets and environmental considerations. The company enjoys a reputation as one of the most environmentally friendly testing agencies globally, with its work in the agroscience field helping to bring pesticides in line with market demand for products with a lower environmental impact.
Eurofins China also partners with local and international suppliers and vendors to provide the highest standards of service to its customers. The analytical and measuring equipment provided by precision instruments and medical equipment manufacturer Shimadzu, for instance, are invaluable tools in the clinical laboratory analysis work carried out in the Shanghai facility.
Prices for testing are on the rise, but Eurofins China’s partnerships improve the value of its service. By working together with the best on the ground, the company can continue to offer and improve the standard of service it’s become renowned for. By maintaining open lines of communication, these relationships go both ways.

Assurance comes to China
Eurofins’ commitment to China as a growing market with much potential is ongoing. In late 2024, the Eurofins Healthcare Assurance subsidiary announced it would open a new site in China, following on from a similar expansion into India earlier that year.
Eurofins Healthcare Assurance partners with pharmaceutical, healthcare, cosmetic and food supplement companies to adhere to regulatory requirements both domestically and internationally, allowing products to meet the highest safety and quality standards.
The move was a hard lean into China’s status as a major supplier of the world’s raw materials and ingredients for pharmaceuticals. The new laboratory puts Eurofins closer to key markets and allows the company to offer enhanced support locally.
As the partners share their innovations, Eurofins provides opportunities that can result in new products or methods of testing.
And as Eurofins China grows, it intends to take its key allies along with it through strong, lasting relationships. There’s much more growth to come. The Chinese wing of the company is relatively young and small, and as global demand for the service grows, China has the potential to meet it.
Clinical testing is a service that benefits greatly from expertise, discipline and control. In China, Eurofins has cultivated all three. Demand will grow and standards will rise, but Eurofins China is equipped with the experience, technology and confidence to pass the test.
