A creative break: Larwill Studio

Burnt orange, tribal red, moody cream, light mauve, dodger blue, and creature green - that’s the eccentric colour palette expressed in The Larwill Studio.

Burnt orange, tribal red, moody cream, light mauve, dodger blue, and creature green—that’s the eccentric colour palette expressed in every nook and cranny of The Larwill Studio boutique hotel in North Melbourne, Victoria. As one of six luxury accommodation facilities in the Art Series Hotel Group across the country—each paying homage to a different Australian artist whose work has been of national influence or intrigue—The Larwill Studio provides a healthy dose of escapism for holiday-makers and business travellers alike.

Inspired by the late David Larwill, each room and communal space is reminiscent of his personal art studio with lots of natural light, work desks, and plenty of quirky little extras. David, a lovable character in the local creative scene as well as the wider community, was celebrated for his figurative expressionist and contemporary works. His playful pieces adorn the walls from the moment you step inside the hotel lobby; their graffiti-like strokes, childish forms, and tribal-inspired shapes encourage guests to stop and ponder their meaning, if only for a minute as there is so much yet to see.
