The Center for China and Globalization (CCG) is back for its seventh year: Here’s what you need to know

The Center for China and Globalization is joining forces with the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Commerce for the state-sponsored China International Fair for Trade in Services on 5–9 September 2020.

CCG

Considered one of the most popular and influential forums in China, the Center for China and Globalization’s (CCG) annual China Inbound-Outbound Forum is back for its seventh year. The forum, which will take place on 8 September as part of the Beijing Municipal Commerce Bureau’s China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS), will focus on China’s post-pandemic economic recovery plan. It’s China’s first major economic event since the COVID-19 outbreak.

This plan calls for a broader opening up of the country’s service sector and implications of the US-China rivalry in an election year for domestic and foreign firms. Participants of the event will get to explore forward-looking, strategic pathways for Chinese and multinational businesses to mitigate adverse impacts and advance proposals for the Chinese government to promote and manage global trade in services.

Roundtable Discussion Topics:

  • Roundtable 1: China’s Service Sector in Pandemic Times: Outlooks and Challenges for Reform and Opening-up
  • Roundtable 2: Technology Cooperation in an Era of US-China Rivalry
  • Roundtable 3: The Digital Economy Dividend: What to Make in the Changing Context of Financial Services
  • Roundtable 4: Regional Free Trade Agreement and Prospects of Sino-European Multilateral Economic and Trade Cooperation

The event will see panels, workshops and exclusive meetings along with featured representatives from Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) and other regulatory agencies, briefing participants on the latest legislative developments and providing insights on the coming policies.

In light of the ongoing pandemic, the event will be presented in an innovative hybrid online-offline fashion. And forum events range from opening keynotes, panel discussions, networking breaks, bilateral meetings and invitation-only sessions. The topics will tap into the perspectives and experiences of key players from FDI-related sectors, academics and regulators to shed light on business strategies in response to COVID-19 challenges.

Deemed the ultimate think tank with global impact in China, CCG has successfully led the organization of the annual conference since 2014. The forum was established amid the rapid growth of the “go global” movement of Chinese enterprises. It was designed as a policy communication platform for leading experts in Chinese outbound direct investment at home and abroad, including business elites, corporate executives, MOFCOM officials, policy advisors, commerce diplomats, experts and professionals.

This year, notable speakers include Ambassador of Canada to China H.E. Dominic Barton, Bank of America Merrill Lynch China Chairman and Chief Executive Margaret Ren, AustCham Beijing CEO and Executive Director Nick Coyle, and PepsiCo Greater China Vice President of Corporate Affairs Judy Zhang.
