Milan is reborn with Bulgari’s Magnifica 2021 Collection

An exquisite watch crafted from a 6.3-carat Mozambique ruby is just one testimony to the Roman maison’s magnificence emerging from Italian ateliers during the midst of the pandemic.

Bulgari

The launch of the brand’s new Magnifica 2021 High Jewellery and High-End Watches collection comprising 350 works of art, including four secret watches and 122 new creations, is arguably Bulgari’s best high jewellery collection to date. Encapsulated in one word – magnificence – Bulgari Product Creation Executive Director Fabrizio Buonamassa Stigliani oversaw the new collection of watches: Celestial Sky, Diamond Swan, Baroque Spiral and the most expensive and exquisite of them all, Ruby Metamorphosis.

Fusing Swiss expertise and Roman craftsmanship, these high-end timepieces feature some of the world’s most precious and lucrative resources on the planet. The Celestial Sky watch is crafted from a six-carat Sri Lanka sapphire, the Diamond Swan includes a seven-carat rock crystal and the Baroque Spiral watch features an impressive range of diamonds, emeralds, rubies and sapphires.

Symbolising the pristine waters of the Mediterranean Sea enveloping Italy’s island of Sardinia, Bulgari jewellers have taken their ability to transform creative ideas into wearable objects to new heights with this collection. The stars of the show are, without a doubt, the Hypnotic Emerald necklace, with its 93.83-carat cabochon Colombian emerald captured in the jaw of a serpent, and the Mediterranean Queen necklace and its five oval cushion-cut Paraiba tourmalines, one of the world’s rarest gems. The collection additionally boasts a 131.24-carat spinel that ranks fourth in the world in weight, featured on the Imperial Spinel necklace.

With the Ruby Metamorphosis watch alone a tribute to 1,650 hours of labour, the sheer brilliance in sophistication and elaborate design of the collection was marked by a two-day event in Milan (3–4 June 2021).

With renowned international clients and celebrities invited to participate in an authentic Italian experience highlighted by musical performances and a Michelin-star al fresco lunch, the Roman-based brand shone its light on the fashion capital in light of the impacts of the pandemic.

Guests were invited to make a donation to the Milan Municipality and, extending Bulgari’s support to the city, the Magnifica collection was displayed at the brand’s flagship store on Via Montenapoleone.
