Panerai unveils its 3D printed titanium watch with 70-year warranty

Panerai is putting its finest workmanship on the line with the introduction of a limited-edition timepiece with a 70-year warranty.

Panerai Luminor Marina 44mm Guillaume Nery

Swiss watchmakers tend to swear by their craftsmanship and centuries-old reputation for precision timekeeping. Panerai is taking that notion one step further with its latest Luminor Marina 44mm Guillaume Néry Edition (PAM01122), a luxury timepiece which will be accompanied with a 70-year warranty.

The model pays tribute to its ambassador and French freediving champion, Guillaume Néry. It also marks the 70th anniversary of the birth of Luminor, the patented tritium-based luminescent substance which can be found on the faces, hands and indexes of every Panerai timepiece. To mark this occasion, the Luminor Marina 44mm Guillaume Néry Edition will be limited to just 70 pieces worldwide via its boutiques.

What sets the latest watch apart from an iconic design is the use of innovative aesthetic cues. Rubberised black coating now covers the bezel, crown and bridge lever, while the dial features a dégradé effect that emulates the shades produced as sunlight filters through the depths of the sea.

What is truly innovative though is the use of an advanced material composition conceived by the Panerai Laboratorio di Idee – the watchmaker’s in-house research and development arm. The Luminor Marina 44mm Guillaume Néry Edition features a lightweight titanium case crafted using direct metal laser sintering (DMLS) technology, a process that shapes titanium via 3D printing.

Internally, the timepiece is powered by Panerai’s calibre P.9010, a self-winding movement that measures in at just six millimetres thick and boasts a power reserve of three days. Other functions include hours, minutes, small seconds and date, while water resistance is rated at 300 metres.

Meanwhile, the strap is made from black recycled PET material with six lines of contrast white stitching. Included is also a white rubber technical strap featuring luminescent ‘Officine Panerai’ lettering.

Finally, the case back is finished in sand-blasted titanium with diamond-like coating and a Guillaume Néry insignia and ‘70 Years Warranty’ logo.
